Владимир БеглецовVladimir Begletsov, an Honored artist of Russia, has been art director of the Smolny Cathedral Chamber Choir since 2005. He is a graduate of three departments of the St Petersburg Conservative: the piano department (under Professor Vladimir Nilsen), the choir conducting, and opera and symphony department (Professor Vladislav Chernushenko), a winner of the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation Competition for symphony conductors (1992).

Thanks to the dedication and commitment of Maestro, today’s performing skills of the Choir are widely recognized as unique.

During its collaboration with the State Museum St Isaac’s Cathedral, the Smolny Chamber Choir presented over 50 new programs, including the world’s premiere of Sviridov’s the Scourge of Juvenal; the Choir also performed for the first time in St Petersburg Orthros by K. Penderetsky, an iconic piece of avant-garde music, and, among its other projects, created a special program Forbidden Songs.

The Smolny Cathedral Chamber Choir was highly praised by such prominent masters as N. Alexeev, V. Gergiev, A. Dmitriev, K. Kord, V. Nesterov, K. Penderetsky, G. Rozhdestvensky, S.Sondetskis, Yu. Temirkanov, and V. Chernushenko.
