The Smolny Cathedral
Bell Tower

The highest viewing point in the city, the bell tower offers the panoramic views of the bend of the Neva, the Smolny Convent and Institute, an excavation site of Nienshants fortress and other attractions of St Petersburg.

With 277 steps leading to its top, the viewing platform is 50 meters above the ground. As you climb up, you will hear Baroque music playing. Of particular interest is the passage through the Cathedral’s attic that reveals unique frames dating from Rastrelli’s time, vaults and roofing structure, and ancient masonry. On the bell tower you are offered an audioguide tour lasting 18 minutes.
